A collegiate golf honor as much about character as it is stroke average, University Place’s Andrew Putnam has been named one of five finalists for the Byron Nelson Award.

The winner will be announced May 3 in Dallas.

Putnam qualifies because he is a senior at Pepperdine, has compiled an impressive golf portfolio, including two tournaments wins this season.

He has also made one of the cuts to play on the U.S. Walker Cup team this summer.

The other finalists are Cyril Bouniol of Abilene Christian, Harris English of Georgia, Timothy Madigan of New Mexico State and Chris Morris of Centre College.

If Putnam wins, he would join his brother, Michael (2005), as a recipient of the award. Both attended Life Christian Academy.
