Gonzales’ second-round score: 1-over 73.

Stanley’s second-round score: 2-over 74.

Position: Stanley (3-over 147), Putnam (4-over 148) and Gonzales (8-over 152) all missed the cut. Bubba Watson is the leader at 10-under 134.

Still leaves ‘Legends’ with laughs, emotion

At least when he returned home, Fircrest’s Ken Still could brag he shot golf scores better than his age – with a little bit of help.

Once a year, the 76-year-old former PGA Tour player tees it up in a tournament – at the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf in Savannah. Ga.

Paired with Billy Casper in the super-senior “Demaret” Division, the two golfers shot a pair of 74s (3-over 148) at the Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort and Spa to finish 16th – well back of winners Gibby Gilbert and J.C. Snead (125).

Last tournament: So, after Stanley missed the cut at last week’s Valero Texas Open (9-over-par 153), would it be fair to say the Bellarmine Prep graduate has hit his first mini-slump? Seven of his past 10 rounds have been over par, including a season-worst 78 in the first round last week (albeit under heavy winds).

Pepperdine’s Putnam finalist for Nelson Award

A collegiate golf honor as much about character as it is stroke average, University Place’s Andrew Putnam has been named one of five finalists for the Byron Nelson Award.

The winner will be announced May 3 in Dallas.

Putnam qualifies because he is a senior at Pepperdine, has compiled an impressive golf portfolio, including two tournaments wins this season.

He has also made one of the cuts to play on the U.S. Walker Cup team this summer.
