Gig Harbor’s Paul Ramsdell, a former News Tribune sports desk chief and golf editor, was recently hired as the executive director of the Northwest Turfgrass Association.

At the NTA’s Feb. 15 meeting, the hiring of Ramsdell, 53, was approved.

According to its Web site, the NTA has distributed more than $900,000 in research grants in nearly a decade and a half.

Besides working at The News Tribune, Ramsdell has been the executive director of the Western Washington Golf Course Superintendents Association (WWGCSA), and has served in various capacities for the Pacific Northwest Golf Association.
