This week: WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship, Wednesday through Sunday, Ritz-Carlton Golf Course at Dove Mountain, Marana, Ariz.
Second-round match: The 12th-seeded Moore defeated No. 13 K.J. Choi, 5 and 4, in the Bobby Jones bracket.
Recap: It was a match very similar to that of Wednesday where Moore jumped out to a big lead by making very few mistakes – and at the same time, watch his opponent plagued by them. Choi missed four crucial putts inside 10 feet, including a 6-footer on the par-3 sixth that gave the Cascade Christian product the lead for good. And Moore kept the heat on, blistered his approach on the par-5 eighth to within 8 feet to nab another hole. By the time Choi’s short par-saving putt slid by on the ninth, Moore – who ended up with five birdies in his first 13 holes – had a 3-up lead. “I just played steady golf against today … nothing crazy. I birdied the holes I should have,” he said.
Next: Moore meets No. 8 seed Nick Watney in a round-of-16 match today. Tee time is scheduled for 10:23 a.m. PST.
