This week: PGA Tour’s Mayakoba Golf Classic at Riviera Maya-Cancun, Thursday through Sunday, El Camaleon Golf Club, Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, Mexico.

Gonzales’ and Stanley’s first-round score: 5-under-par 66.

Position: Both locals are tied for the lead with Mark Hensby and David Toms.

Recap: In just his sixth career PGA Tour, Gonzales, a Capital High product, has a share of a lead after one round. And he did it with a strong finish, make an eagle on the par-5 13th hole that played into the wind, and then he finished with two consecutive birdies on downwind par-4s at Nos. 17 and 18. … Stanley was on the mark with mid-range birdie putts, making four of them of 20 feet or longer. And he finished with back-to-back birdies, tapping in a 5-footer on the short par-3 eighth and rolling in a 22-footer on the par-4 ninth.

Tee times Friday: Stanley at 5:30 PST off the first tee; Gonzales at 10:15 a.m. PST off the 10th tee.
