This week: PGA Tour’s Farmers Insurance Open, Thursday through Sunday, Torrey Pines North and South Courses, San Diego
Stanley’s second-round score: Even-par 72 on the South Course.
Putnam’s second-round score: 2-under 70 on the North Course.
Gonzales’ second-round score: 4-under 68 on the North Course.
Position: Stanley (4-under 140) is tied for 31st, seven strokes behind leader Bill Haas (133; shot 66 on the South Course on Friday). Gonzales (145) and Putnam (146) missed the cut.
Recap: Good start for Stanley – a 332-yard drive, a wedge approach and an 18-foot birdie putt on the difficult first hole to go to 5-under for the tournament, and into the top 10. But errant drives on the fifth and seventh holes led to bogeys, and he made nine consecutive pars after that before a late birdie. … After 12 holes Friday, the outlook was promising for Gonzales in his first PGA Tour Start – he was inside the cut-line. But he followed with three bogeys on his next four holes to fall back. … Putnam had four birdies in a five-hole stretch, but he, too, had a few untimely bogeys.
Stanley’s tee time Saturday: 8 a.m. PST off the first tee of Torrey South with Stewart Cink and Lucas Glover.
Next for Putnam, Gonzales: Both (as well as Stanley) are on the alternate list for next week’s Waste Management Phoenix Open starting Thursday at TPC Scottsdale. Puyallup’s Ryan Moore is in the field.
