This week: PGA Tour’s Farmers Insurance Open, Thursday through Sunday, Torrey Pines North and South Courses, San Diego
Stanley’s first-round score: 4-under-par 68 on the North Course.
Putnam’s first-round score: 4-over 76 on the South Course.
Gonzales’ first-round score: 5-over 77 on the South Course.
Position: Stanley is tied for 15th, Putnam is in a group in 133rd and Gonzales is tied for 145th – all behind Korea’s Sunghoon Kang (64 on North Course).
Recap: Stanley continued what he’s been doing in the past couple weeks – make birdies. He ended his final three holes with birdies to erase a first-hole bogey, and now has posted seven consecutive under-par rounds. … Putnam has had a good track record on the South Course, but notched just one birdie Thursday. And he had back-to-back bogeys at the seventh and eighth holes – the final one coming on the par-3 hole where he hit his tee shot in a front greenside bunker. … Gonzales also had one birdie in his first 2011 PGA Tour round, but a triple bogey at the par-5 sixth spelled disaster. He hit his drive out-of-bounds left, took and penalty stroke and ended up three-putting from 45 feet for his ‘8.’
Tee times Friday: Stanley at 9:20 a.m. PST off the first tee at Torrey South; Gonzales at 9:20 a.m. PST off the 10th tee at Torrey North; and Putnam at 10:20 a.m. PST off the 10th tee at Torrey North.
