This week: PGA Tour’s Bob Hope Classic, Wednesday through Sunday, PGA West Nicklaus, PGA West Palmer, La Quinta CC and Silver Rock Golf Courses, La Quinta, Calif.

Stanley’s fifth-round score: 5-under-par 67 at PGA West Palmer.

Putnam’s fifth-round score: Even-par 72 at PGA West Palmer.

Position: Stanley (18-under 342) tied for 29th, and Putnam (11-under 349) finished in a group at tied for 68th – all behind winner Jhonattan Vegas (333), who won in a sudden-death playoff over Bill Haas and Gary Woodland.

Recap: Posting one of the better rounds of the day at PGA West Palmer, Stanley finished 9-under on that course in two rounds – and made six more birdies Sunday. His last one came on the drivable par-4 eighth where his drive landed just off the green, and he nearly holed a 40-foot chip shot, leaving him a tap-in birdie. … Putnam started off with a three-putt from 90 feet for a double bogey on his first hole (10th), but made four birdies, including a final one on the ninth hole when his 9-iron approach stopped close, and he made a 4-foot putt.

Next: Putnam and Stanley are in the field for next week’s Farmers Insurance Open starting Thursday at Torrey Pines North and South Golf Course outside San Diego. Olympia’s Andres Gonzaeles is the first alternate to get into his first PGA event in 2011.
