The Northwest’s best club professionals captured every session, including the singles Friday, to retain the Hudson Cup at Meridian Valley Country Club in Kent.

Final score: Pros 131/2, Amateurs 61/2.

Winners from the pro side Friday include Darek Franklin, Casey McCoy, Ryan Malby, Scott Erdmann and Rob Givens.

Yet, the amateurs fared well in the blockbuster matchups Friday. The all-Meridian Valley CC showdown between teaching professional Brian Thornton and Mike Haack – who works in the bar at the club – drew a gallery of 50 members.

And Haack beat the 2009 Washington Open champion, 4-and-3.

Also, Duvall’s Derek Berg defeated the reigning Washington Open champion – Jeff Coston, of Blaine – 4-and-2.

And Bonney Lake’s Sean Packer sewed up an all-Pierce County matchup against former Tacoma Country and Golf Club assistant pro Chris Griffin on the final green.

Griffin missed an 8-foot putt to halve the match, and Packer won, 1-up.
