Ryan Moore at Malaysia Classic, 4th Rd.

This week: PGA Tour’s CIMB Asia Pacific Malaysia Classic, Thursday through Sunday, The Mines Resort and Golf Club, Selangor, Malaysia.

Fourth-round score: 2-under-par 69.

Position: Moore (14-under 270) finished tied for fifth behind winner Ben Crane (266), who held on for a one-stroke triumph.

Recap: No real charge early, and the Puyallup golfer fell off the pace. He did make three birdies in the final six holes (No. 13, 15 and 18).

Next: Unless Moore gets into the WGC-HSBC Championships this week, his next tournament will be early on the PGA Tour schedule in 2011.

Position: Moore is alone in second, one stroke behind leader Ricky Barnes (63).

Recap: Arriving Friday, getting acclimated to the 16-hour time change and seeing the course a bunch has paid off for the Puyallup resident, who seems to like playing golf in Asia (he finished third at last year’s WGC-HSBC Championship). He had a bogey-free round, and all seven of his birdies came during a 12-hole stretch (Nos. 6 through 17).

Still cashes in on birthday treat: Revisiting Augusta

It was a birthday wish Fircrest’s Ken Still long looked forward to – playing Augusta National Golf Club, site of the Masters, with his longtime buddy, Jack Nicklaus and other family members.

On Monday, the dream foursome got together to play that round – er, sort of.

Dark skies and looming thunderstorms forced Still and son, Mark Evans; and Nicklaus and son, Jack, Jr., off the course after 13 holes.

“We were playing No. 9 when the siren went off, and they announced, ‘All players off the course immediately,’” Still said by phone Monday night from his hotel in Atlanta.

Same result … pros retain 62nd Hudson Cup

The Northwest’s best club professionals captured every session, including the singles Friday, to retain the Hudson Cup at Meridian Valley Country Club in Kent.

Final score: Pros 131/2, Amateurs 61/2.

Winners from the pro side Friday include Darek Franklin, Casey McCoy, Ryan Malby, Scott Erdmann and Rob Givens.

Yet, the amateurs fared well in the blockbuster matchups Friday. The all-Meridian Valley CC showdown between teaching professional Brian Thornton and Mike Haack – who works in the bar at the club – drew a gallery of 50 members.

And Haack beat the 2009 Washington Open champion, 4-and-3.

Also, Duvall’s Derek Berg

Griffin, Thornton lead pros to big lead at Hudson Cup

Must be nice to never see the 18th hole in match play.

A couple of local club professional standouts – Tacoma’s Chris Griffin and Sumner’s Brian Thornton – took care of their matches in convincing style during the opening day of the 62nd Hudson Cup at Meridian Valley Country Club in Kent.

Griffin teamed with Seattle’s Ryan Benzel to win a morning foursome match over amateurs Paul Peterson and Armen Kirakossian, 2-and-1.

Thornton and Blaine’s Jeff Coston won by that same margin over Derek Berg and Chad Sawyer in that same session.

And in the afternoon four-ball, Griffin and Thornton
