This week: PGA Tour’s BMW Championship, Thursday through Sunday, Cog Hill Golf and Country Club, Lemont, Ill.

World ranking: 49th.

2010 earnings: $1.81 million (35th on the PGA Tour).

Last tournament: The Puyallup golfer’s late-season swoon continued at last week’s Deutsche Bank Championship (2-over 286, tied for 67th). He’s missed two cuts, and finished no better than 65th in his past four tournaments. Now, it’s do-or-die, in terms of staying in the FedEx Cup playoffs. Dropping 11 spots last week to 58th, he needs a top-five finish this week – or better – to ensure his debut spot at The Tour Championship starting Sept. 23 in Atlanta. The good news is that he’s made the cut in both previous BMW Championship appearances as a playoff event, with a best tied-for-18th showing in 2007.

Tee time Thursday: 6 a.m. PDT off the first tee with Marc Leishman.
