Jeff Wilson is in good position to win qualifying medalist honors at the U.S. Amateur for the second time after shooting a 3-over-par, 74 today at Chambers Bay.

Couple with his 10-under-par 62 on Monday at the Home Course, Wilson finished with a 7-under and currently has a four-shot lead over five golfers including the University of Washington’s Nick Taylor.

“This is a hard, hard golf course,” Wilson said.

Wilson shot even par on the front nine, then “On the back nine I probably hit the ball as well as I did any nine holes in the whole tournament,” Wilson said of shooting 3-over on the final three holes. “… That’s just the way this golf course goes. Sometimes the bounce will go your way and sometimes it won’t.”

Wilson, a 47-year-old who works at his family’s Toyota dealership, won the medalist at the 2000 U.S. Amateur. He has been the medalist at four USGA events.
