Kyle Stanley at Colonial, 4th Rd.

This week: PGA Tour’s Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial, Thursday through Sunday, Colonial Country Club, Fort Worth, Texas

Fourth-round score: Even-par 70.

Position: Stanley (10-under 270) finished tied for 27th, 11 strokes behind winner Zach Johnson (259).

Recap: After three consecutive rounds in the 60s, the Gig Harbor golfer had legitimate reason to think he could make a move toward the title Sunday. And stepping on the tee of the first hole – a par-5 he eagled earlier in the week – it went awry when he hit a drive in the right rough, and ended up with a three-putt

Source: Moore takes ownership of shoe company

Got a heads-up heading into the weekend that Puyallup’s Ryan Moore has not only picked up another sponsor – he’s acquired another golf-apparel company.

Eight months after becoming a partner with Chattanooga (Tenn.)-based Scratch Golf (irons, putter, hats), Moore will announce this week he’s inked a deal with a shoe company.

A source said Moore made an appearance in Dallas this week with his brother, Jeremy, to show off one of the prototypes he’ll wear on the PGA Tour.

Moore will play in the Colonial starting Thursday.

Flatstick flatlining, and flailing for UW star Taylor

UW golfer Charlie Hughes, left, walks from the 14th tee with coach Matt Thurmond during the final round of the NCAA West Regionals at Gold Mountain Golf Complex.

Nick Taylor on putting woes (05-22)

Chris Williams on ace at 8th hole (05-22)

If Ben Hogan himself could have witnessed what one of the three finalists for the NCAA-golfer-of-the-year award named after him was doing on the greens this week, he might have checked UW star Nick Taylor off the short list.

About the only thing that didn’t go swimmingly for the fifth-ranked Huskies by the end of the NCAA West Regionals on Saturday was Taylor’s struggles putting. The team’s No. 1 player missed short birdie putt after short birdie putt – with no remedy in sight.

His finish was respectable on the Olympic Course at Gold Mountain – tied for 19th at 2-over-par 218 – but was far from what the Canadian expected in his penultimate collegiate event.

And in the final round Saturday, his putting took to a new low.

Darren Wallace audio at NCAA West Regionals (05-20)

UW coach Matt Thurmond audio (05-20)

Not many former Pacific-10 Conference champions play the next season regularly in the No. 4 spot.

That is the kind of season Canadian Darren Wallace has had for the Washington Huskies in 2009-2010.

After winning the conference title last season at Seattle Golf Club, a continued breakthrough was expected to carry over for Wallace this season. It didn’t happen. His driver betrayed him. Putts weren’t falling.
