Whidbey Island pro wins Callaway Invite at Gold Mountain

David Phay, one of the overnight leaders, made sure to stay out in front Tuesday to win the Callaway Golf Invitational in Gorst.

Phay shot a 3-under-par 69 on the Olympic Course at Gold Mountain Golf Complex, and settled for a two-stroke victory.

His two-round 136 total held of Blaine’s Brett Eaton and Sumner’s Brian Thornton (both at 138), who had the best round of the day Tuesday – a 68.

Tacoma’s Todd Erwin, of Tacoma Firs, was tied for sixth at 140. Also, Life Christian Academy product Taylor Ferris, out of Allenmore, was in a group in 18th at 144 after his second consecutive 72.
