Masters pick: Hint, hint, it’s not a Tiger or Phil

Lots of activity in the past few days – Tiger’s press conference, Phil’s constant driving-range woes (he can’t keep the driver straight) and as I stated in today’s section, there’s no real favorite coming into today’s action.

But I have a guy in mind.

First, here is a podcast link from yesterday’s interview with Kevin Calabro and Jim Moore on ESPN’s 710-AM.

As expected, Puyallup’s Ryan Moore participated in the Par-3 Contest, in between a quick nine holes on Augusta National’s back nine and a session on the driving range testing a new set of clubs.

And an overview to my original point: The field is as wide open at a Masters as it’s been in recent memory (thanks to Tiger’s extended break from golf).

My pick this week is England’s Lee Westwood. No, he isn’t the best putter in the world. No, he doesn’t chip it around the greens always in a world-class manner. Somehow, Europe’s best player gets it done. He’s been the most consistent performer on both tours (European Tour and PGA Tour), and he’s too good not to win a major title before he’s done.

Tell me what you think.

Enjoy the coverage.
