Tacoma’s Taylor Ferris hasn’t made the waves of some of the more experienced PGA assistant professionals in the Northwest, but he took a big step Thursday.

Ferris, a Life Christian Academy graduate, won the prestigious Pelzer Golf Supplies Washington State Assistants Championship.

In fact, the 24-year-old was the lone golfer in the field to break 70 at Fairwood Golf and Country Club – firing a 5-under-par 66 to win the one-round title by four strokes over Kent’s Josh Immordino.

He made five birdies (on Nos. 8, 9, 14, 16 and 18) and no bogeys during his round.

Ferris, who graduated from LCA in 2003, become the first Allenmore Golf Course assistant pro since Glenn Malm did in 1980. Malm also won it working at Tacoma Country and Golf Club.

It was Ferris’ first tournament title in the Western Washington PGA chapter.
