Ryan Moore at Waste Management Phoenix Open, 4th Rd.

This week: PGA Tour’s Waste Management Phoenix Open, Thursday through Sunday, TPC Scottsdale, Scottsdale, Ariz.

Fourth-round score: 3-under-par 68.

Position: Moore (10-under 274) finished tied for 14th, six strokes behind winner Hunter Mahan (268).

Recap: At one point, Moore had dropped three strokes to 4-over for the tournament after his bogey on the 12th hole. He then made six birdies the rest fo the way, including one at the raucous par-3 16th where he sank a 9-foot putt to get back to even-par on his round. He then strung together three birdies in a row (Nos. 2-4) to get back

Ryan Moore at Waste Management Phoenix Open, 3rd Rd.

This week: PGA Tour’s Waste Management Phoenix Open, Thursday through Sunday, TPC Scottsdale, Scottsdale, Ariz.

Third-round score: 3-over-par 74.

Position: Moore (7-under 206) is tied for 34th, seven strokes behind leader Brandt Snedeker (199).

Recap: Lurking around the lead most of the afternoon, Moore’s rocky stretch started on the 11th hole. His drive landed in the right-side lake, leading to a bogey. Then he started missing short putts – a 6-footer for a bogey on the 13th hole, and a 7-footer for par on the 18th. The Cascade Christian graduate has ground to make up to get a high enough

Ryan Moore at Waste Management Phoenix Open, 2nd Rd.

This week: PGA Tour’s Waste Management Phoenix Open, Thursday through Sunday, TPC Scottsdale, Scottsdale, Ariz.

Second-round score: 5-under-par 66.

Position: Moore (10-under 132) is tied for third, one stroke off the lead shared by Camilo Villegas and Mark Wilson (131).

Recap: After an early double bogey, the Puyallup golfer played near-flawless golf – seven birdies and no bogeys. And like he did Thursday, he did his damage on his final nine holes (No. 1 through 9). He began that side with back-to-back birdies, then finished it off by knocking a pitching wedge approach from 130 yards out close, and sinking

Ryan Moore at Waste Management Phoenix Open, 1st Rd.

This week: PGA Tour’s Waste Management Phoenix Open, Thursday through Sunday, TPC Scottsdale, Scottsdale, Ariz.

First-round score: 5-under-par 66.

Position: Moore is tied for seventh, four strokes behind leader Camilo Villegas (62).

Recap: Easily his best round in this tournament, the Puyallup golfer blistered TPC Scottsdale’s back nine holes (five birdies, no bogeys), including back-to-back birdies to finish up. Moore decided to lay up on the short par-4 17th, and almost holed out his approach. The par-4 18th ranked as the second-hardest hole Thursday, but Moore made a 13-foot putt to move into the top 10 on the leaderboard.

Ryan Moore at Waste Management Phoenix Open, preview

This week: PGA Tour’s Waste Management Phoenix Open, Thursday through Sunday, TPC Scottsdale, Scottsdale, Ariz.

World ranking: 54th.

2010 earnings: $380,173 (35th on the PGA Tour).

Last tournament: The Puyallup golfer’s stay at his first WGC-Match Play Championship near Tucson was short-lived last week. He was ousted in the opening round by South Africa’s Ernie Els, 4-and-3. But, oh, how the schedule is kind. Moore gets the rare opportunity to sleep in his own bed this week – as do many of the guys who have relocated to Scottsdale – and play a course with which he’s familiar. After missing

Prugh adds name to Northwest’s brigade of top pros

Spokane’s Alex Prugh took a much-needed break last week – he’s got a not-so-distant-future wedding to help plan – after playing every tournament on the PGA Tour’s “West Coast Swing” where he had three consecutive top-10 finishes (and was 5-for-5 in cuts made).

Money won’t be an issue. He’s earned nearly $600,000, easily inside the top 20 on the 2010 earnings list.

After this week’s Waste Management Open, the season’s first rookie “reshuffle” will take place. As of now, he’ll be No. 1 on that list, and will be in line to play whatever PGA Tour tournament he wants.

Allenmore’s Ferris wins Northwest assistant pro title

Tacoma’s Taylor Ferris hasn’t made the waves of some of the more experienced PGA assistant professionals in the Northwest, but he took a big step Thursday.

Ferris, a Life Christian Academy graduate, won the prestigious Pelzer Golf Supplies Washington State Assistants Championship.

In fact, the 24-year-old was the lone golfer in the field to break 70 at Fairwood Golf and Country Club – firing a 5-under-par 66 to win the one-round title by four strokes over Kent’s Josh Immordino.

He made five birdies (on Nos. 8, 9, 14, 16 and 18) and no bogeys during his round.

Ferris, who graduated

Kyle Stanley at Mayakoba Classic, 2nd Rd.

This week: PGA Tour’s Mayakoba Classic, Thursday through Sunday, El Camaleon Golf Club, Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, Mexico

Second-round score: 1-over-par 72.

Position: Stanley (even-par 142) missed the cut by one stroke. Joe Durant (130) holds a two-stroke lead.

Recap: The Gig Harbor resident was inside the cutline, and playing his final par-5 – the eighth hole – when the unexpected happened. He made a bogey. It cost him the chance to make his first cut on the PGA Tour this season.

Next: Nationwide Tour’s Panama Claro Championship starting Thursday at Panama Golf Club.
