This week: PGA Tours Farmers Insurance Open, Thursday through Sunday, Torrey Pines North and South Courses, San Diego.

Moore’s first-round score: 2-under-par 70 on North Course.

Putnam’s first-round score: 1-under 71 on South Course.

Position: Moore is tied for 40th, and Putnam is in a group in 57th place. Scott Piercy is the sole leader after his 64 on the North Course.

Recap: Only 27 golfers cracked par on the long and demanding South Course, and Putnam was one of them. It was a pretty remarkable feat considering the Tacoma golfer started his first PGA Tour round in more than two years with a double bogey on the first hole, and a bogey on the next one to immediately fall to 3-over. But a chip-in eagle from 40 feet on the par-5 sixth really got him going. He finished with four birdies and an eagle. “I played really, really well after the first two holes. I hung in there,” Putnam said. “Obviously there is a reason why I qualified for this, because I’m playing well.” … Moore had a string of five consecutive rounds in the 60s going, but that was snapped Thursday. Much ot if had to do with sub-par driving accuracy (hit six of 14 fairways) and so-so putting (30 putts).

Moore’s tee time Friday: 8:50 a.m. PST off South’s 10th tee.

Putnam’s tee time Friday: 10:20 a.m. PST of North’s 10th tee.
