Michael Putnam at Farmers Insurance Open, 4th Rd.

This week: PGA Tour’s Farmers Insurance Open, Thursday through Sunday, Torrey Pines South Course, San Diego

Fourth-round score: 3-over-par 75.

Position: Putnam (3-under 285) tied for 37th. Fellow Northwest product Ben Crane (275) won by one stroke over three golfers.

Recap: The Tacoma golfer simply ran out of gas midway through the final round of his first PGA Tour event in more than two years – and that’s understandable. The Life Christian Academy graduate got to 7-under after his birdie on the eighth hole, but his bogey a hole later began a five-bogey-in-seven-hole string, ending his hopes of a top-10

Michael Putnam at Farmers Insurance Open, 3rd Rd.

This week: PGA Tour’s Farmers Insurance Open, Thursday through Sunday, Torrey Pines South Course, San Diego

Third-round score: 1-under-par 71.

Position: Putnam (6-under 210) is tied for 17th, seven strokes behind leader Ryuji Imada (203).

Recap: From a ball-striking standpoint, the Tacoma product had his best showing in three rounds. Putnam just had two bad holes – making a double bogey on the uphill and dangerous par-4 12th and then the par-5 13th. On the 12th, his 5-iron approach plugged in the back face of a greenside bunker. On the next hole, his third shot also got into a bunker,

Position: Putnam (5-under 139) is tied for 21st, six strokes behind co-leaders Ryuji Imada and D.A. Points (133). Moore (144) missed the cut by two shots.

Recap: Rust from a two-year layoff from PGA Tour action? Not Putnam, who once again started his round with a bogey (on No. 10), and once again, rallied thereafter with five birdies coming home – three on par-5s. His best

Recap: Only 27 golfers cracked par on the long and demanding South Course, and Putnam was one of them. It was a pretty remarkable feat considering the Tacoma golfer started his first PGA Tour round in more than

Ryan Moore and Michael Putnam at Farmers Insurance Open, preview

This week: PGA Tour’s Farmers Insurance Open, Thursday through Sunday, Torrey Pines North and South Courses, San Diego.

Moore’s 2010 earnings: $323,333 (11th on PGA Tour).

Last tournament: Two starts for Moore, two top-10 finishes for the Puyallup golfer. All five rounds he posted in his tied-for-10th at the Bob Hope Classic were in the 60s, and his place moved him up one spot on the official world golf rankings. Moore likes Torrey Pines, but has missed the cut at this tournament in three of his four appearances. … Not since a tied-for-45th

Putnam gets into Farmers Insurance field

It’s been more than two years since Tacoma’s Michael Putnam has played in a PGA Tour event.

That ends Thursday.

Putnam, the former All-American from Pepperdine, and Life Christian Academy graduate, finished third at a Monday qualifier for the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines South and North Courses in San Diego.

He tees off Thursday on the more-difficult South Course at 9:20 a.m. PST with Matt Jones and Roger Tambellini.

On Monday, Putnam shot a 5-under-par 67 in the qualifier to get in – aided by a 155-yard hole-out for eagle on the par-4 17th hole.

In 2007, when

This week: PGA Tour’s Bob Hope Classic, Wednesday through Monday, PGA West Nicklaus and Palmer Courses, SilverRock Resort and La Quinta CC, La Quinta, Calif.

Fifth-round score: 3-under-par 69 at Palmer Course.

Position: Moore (22-under 340) finished tied for 10th, eight strokes behind winner Bill Haas (332).

Recap: A low number was out there, evidenced by what Matt Kucher (63) or Haas (64) shot Monday. And that was the Puyallup golfer’s thinking as he stood on the 14th tee, thinking of putting himself in the best position to make an eagle. And his aggressive line off the tee landed in

Ryan Moore at Bob Hope Classic, 4th Rd.

This week: PGA Tour’s Bob Hope Classic, Wednesday through Monday, PGA West Nicklaus and Palmer Courses, SilverRock Resort and La Quinta CC, La Quinta, Calif.

Fourth-round score: 5-under-par 67 at Nicklaus Course.

Position: Moore (19-under 269) is alone in 10th, four strokes behind co-leaders Bubba Watson and Alex Prugh, of Spokane (265).

Recap: Well, the Puyallup golfer is certainly within striking distance as the final round will conclude today on the Palmer Course. Again, Moore rallied late, turning a so-so round into his seventh round in the 60s this season by making three birdies in a row (Nos. 3-5), and
