Stanley in familar spot – second at NCAAs

Gig Harbor’s Kyle Stanley knew if his putter obliged, he could make
noise at this week’s 111th NCAA Division I men’s championships in West
Lafayette, Ind.

It has.

And he’s certainly in the hunt for the title.

Stanley, the sophomore at Clemson, carded the day’s third-best round
Thursday – a 4-under-par 68 – to trail Florida’s Billy Horschel by one
stroke at the midway point of the NCAAs on the Kampen Course at Birck

After his tournament-best 67 Thursday, Horschel grabbed the outright

UW solid in ‘joke’ conditions at NCAAs

Washington men’s golf coach Matt Thurmond had heard rumblings coming
in to the 111th NCAA Division I championships of how formidable the

Up-and-down savers: Putt-putt pair, Eakin watching ex-UW mates, golf-cart protocol and other tidbits

So, what is The News Tribune’s golf writer working on these days? A wacky spin-off of the sport – miniature golf.

Last fall, TNT outdoors reporter Craig Hill and myself formed an
idea for a spring-time package on “crazy golf,” complete with course
reviews, a story on the culture of it and a match with touring
professionals Ryan Moore and Michael Putnam, both Pierce County

We met the 20-something duo at The Putting Zoo in Puyallup for a best-ball 18-hole match. We
