This week: PGA Tour’s Wachovia Championship, Thursday through Sunday, Quail Hollow CC, Charlotte, N.C.
First round score: 3-over 75.
Position: Putnam (tied for 122nd) trails leader David Toms (5-under 67) by eight strokes.
Recap: Putnam, the Tacoma native, was one of the last golfers to go out
Thursday, and started poorly (bogeys on first two holes) and stumbled
at the end (bogeys on Nos. 16 and 18). Blame it on his ball-striking
(hit five of 14 fairways, and 10 of 18 greens in regulation).
Tee time Friday: 6 a.m. PDT off the 10th tee.
