Tacoma bankruptcy attorney Mike Malaier’s profession hit close to home on “Jeopardy” Thursday night. The 34-year-old went home after going into the red on the long-running game show.

At the top of the show host Alex Trebek said Malaier and his two fellow contestants on Wednesday’s show were very proud that they couldn’t come up with the final answer of Beavis and Butt-Head.

“I think that made me feel good,” Trebek said.

Malaier ended Wednesday night’s show with $8,100 but got off to a slow start on Thursday with only a couple of correct questions before the first commercial …

Who is Mike Malaier?

Malaier knew his trivia well enough to beat the other two contestants in the long-running game show in which players must phrase their answers in the form of a question.

Malaier got off to a good start with a question about Hans Christian Andersen but almost flubbed it with another answer about Madame Tussauds Chamber of Horrors by calling it the House of Horrors. Host Alex Trebek let him slide on that one.

Wednesday update: Tonight’s show will be on KOMO-TV (4) at 7:30 p.m.

Tacoma attorney Mike Malaier will compete on an episode of “Jeopardy” on Wednesday. For now, he can’t reveal whether he was a one-shot wonder or the next Ken Jennings.

“I’m definitely on tomorrow and what happens after that I’m not supposed to talk about.

Malaier is a Tacoma bankruptcy attorney. I asked him if that would make it doubly embarrassing if he had gone bankrupt playing Jeopardy.
