The Flamenco (and rock and folk and…) will go on at Mandolin

You may have read here that Tacoma’s Mandolin Cafe may close because it has a new landlord. The deal isn’t done yet and even if it does the cafe may relocate.

My colleagues in the TNT’s business section will report on the official word when we get it. I’ll try to keep you updated on entertainment events. The cafe, at 3923 S. 12th St., is a popular spot for not only local but touring musicians and performers.

Wussy plays Mandolin Cafe June 16

They might be the best band in America that no one has heard of. Unless you’re a critic. The indie rock group Wussy will be making a stop at Tacoma’s Mandolin Cafe for a show on June 16 at 6 p.m.

The Cincinnati-based group is promoting their fourth release, Strawberry.

The band, led by former Ass Pony’s frontman Chuck Cleaver and Lisa Walker, also includes Mark Messerly as bassist/utility man and drummer Joe Klug. Only Cleaver and Walker will be performing at Mandolin.

Justin Jude plays Mandolin Cafe April 13

Justin Jude

Portland-based singer-songwriter Justin Jude brings his uplifting voice to the Mandolin Cafe in a 6 p.m. show April 13.

Jude just released his third album, 5 Kinds of Rain. It’s a follow-up to 2008’s Truce. I listened to several tracks on the new EP and I found Jude’s lyrical voice and acoustic backing to be at turns searing and contemplative.

Camille Bloom to play Mandolin Cafe December 2

Seattle-based rising star singer-songwriter Camille Bloom will perform at the Mandolin Café on December 2 in support of her new release Never Out Of Time.

An acoustic folk singer with a powerful voice, Bloom has toured nationally and internationally and picked up a lot of fans and critic support along the way.

Check her out at Mandolin at 8 p.m. on December 2. The cafe is at 3923 S. 12th Street, Tacoma, 253-761-3482.
