Tacoma’s Malaier goes bankrupt on ‘Jeopardy’

Tacoma bankruptcy attorney Mike Malaier’s profession hit close to home on “Jeopardy” Thursday night. The 34-year-old went home after going into the red on the long-running game show.

“I think that made me feel good,” Trebek said.

Malaier ended Wednesday night’s show with $8,100 but got off to a slow start on Thursday with only a couple of correct questions before the first commercial

Malaier got off to a good start with a question about Hans Christian Andersen but almost flubbed it with another answer about Madame Tussauds Chamber of Horrors by calling it the House of Horrors. Host Alex Trebek let him slide on that one.

Malaier is a Tacoma bankruptcy attorney. I asked him if that would make it doubly embarrassing if he had gone bankrupt playing Jeopardy.

“Yes, it would have. I never even put the two together until now.”

The 34-year-old is engaged
