The Fame Riot wins EMP’s Sound Off semi-finals

Tacoma’s The Fame Riot has advanced to the finals in EMP Museum’s Sound Off band competition.

The Fame Riot competed (along with fellow Tacoma band Shogun Barbie) Saturday at EMP where they won the semi-final round and audience favorite award.

Last Friday we profiled the two Tacoma bands plus two other local groups for the 21 and under competition. Read more about that here.

The finals will be held March 2.

Brandi Carlile, Duff McKagan perform Hendrix at EMP

Local music stars Brandi Carlile and Duff McKagan have been added to the lineup for “Hear My Train a Comin’: The Concert” on November 17 at the Experience Music Project.

The show kicks off the opening of the museum’s exhibition “Hear My Train a Comin’: Hendrix Hits London.” The show focuses on Jimi Hendrix’s rise on the British pop charts and his return to America in 1967 for his legendary performance at the Monterey International Pop Festival.

The show opens one week before what would have been Hendrix’s 70th birthday.

AC/DC powers up at EMP this month

The new Experience Music Project exhibit “AC/DC: Australia’s Family Jewels” kicks off April 27 with some headbangin’ events. The all-female AC/DC tribute band Hell’s Belles will perform and there will be a Q&A and book signing with author Anthony Bozza.

The EMP show about the long running and hard rocking Aussie band AC/DC runs April 28 to September 29. The group has sold 71 million albums in the U.S. and makes appearances in Tacoma every couple of years.
