Showbox SoDo event cancelled due to cracked beam, organizer says

A structural beam in the ceiling of Showbox SoDo in Seattle cracked as crews set up for the FareStart Guest Chef Spectacular event today, according to FareStart spokeswoman Christina Starr.

She said a structural engineer advised that the venue be closed for the night.

FareStart cancelled the event and will issue full refunds to ticket holders, Starr said.

The event was scheduled to feature a selection of food and alcohol from local businesses that support FareStart, which aims to give the homeless and disadvantaged life and job skills through training in the food service industry.

The Eagles to play KeyArena Sept. 4

Time to make your reservations at the Hotel California. The Eagles will play KeyArena on Sept. 4 – a stop on their History of the Eagles tour. Tickets go on sale Monday.

The tour kicks off on July 6 in Louisville, Kentucky. The tour was announced last month in conjunction with the release of the band’s documentary, “History of the Eagles,” but the Seattle stop was just added this week.

Courtney Love returns to Seattle for July 23 show

The Northwest’s most famous (or infamous) rock widow, Courtney Love, is returning to Seattle’s Moore Theatre for a July 23 show.

Love gained fame first as lead singer in Hole and later from her marriage to Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain. She’s also had an on-again-off-again acting career. And many controlled substance-fueled public shenanigans.

Love will perform songs from Live Through This, Celebrity Skin and Nobody’s Daughter including “Violet,” “Miss World,” “Celebrity Skin,” “Malibu” and “Skinny Little Bitch.”

Jim Gaffigan adds second Seattle show on July 20

Jim Gaffigan is a popular comedian. He’s added a second show for his Seattle appearance.

The first show is at 7 p.m. and the newly added time is at 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 20 at The Paramount. Tickets for the 7 p.m. show are already on sale. Tickets for the new show go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday. It’s all ages.

Justin Timberlake to bring 20/20 to KeyArena in 2014

You know a pop star is huge when he books KeyArena a year in advance. Justin Timberlake announced today that he’s bringing his 20/20 Experience to Seattle on May 17, 2014.

This marks the Grammy and Emmy Award-winning singer and actor’s first headlining tour in six years. It kicks off in October and will take him all over the world.

Timberlake also announced today that he will re-release his new album, The 20/20 Experience, on September 30, 2013.

Bumbershoot 2013 will include Heart, Death Cab for Cutie, fun., and Vicci Martinez

The Northwest’s own Heart and Death Cab for Cutie will headline Seattle’s annual Bumbershoot festival this year. Bumbershoot takes over Seattle Center every Labor Day weekend and features concerts, literary events, art, comedy and more. This year’s festival runs Aug. 31 to Sept. 2.

The festival’s music lineup, which was announced this morning, also includes fun., Vicci Martinez, MGMT, Kendrick Lamar, Bob Mould, Tegan & Sara, Icona Pop, Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Experience, Eric Burdon & The Animals, and Bassnectar.

You might be surprised to learn that this is the first time Heart will play at its hometown music festival.
