If you have you been thinking of keeping urban chickens and are wondering where to start, then the Tacoma Urban Coop Tour is for you. Sponsored by GardenSphere, the tour explores several local chicken coops where you can learn about coops, raising hens and what is involved from those doing it now.

Samoa Cultural Day, Stadium Fare, Little Bill & the Bluenotes, Vintage Car Race, movies in the park and more events this weekend

Immerse yourself in island style at Samoa Cultural Day at Mount Tahoma High School, 4634 S. 74th St., Tacoma. From 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, there will be a traditional fashion show, village dance and songs and resource information booths. Authentic food will be for sale. Admission is free.

This year’s theme, “A Symphony of Roses, A Concord of Colors” will features dozens of varieties of roses on display. Explore the area’s Scottish heritage at the 44th annual Tacoma Highland Games at Frontier Park, 21800 Meridian Ave. E., Graham. Enjoy massed bagpipe bands, a British antique car show, a clan gathering, vendors, piping and drumming, Highland dance and field events competitions. The event runs from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday. Summer Sounds at Skansie begins June 25

The free outdoor concert series at Gig Harbor’s Skansie Brothers Park starts again on June 25.

Summer Sounds at Skansie will run on consecutive Tuesdays through August 20. All concerts start at 6:30 p.m. at the waterfront park in downtown Gig Harbor.

It’s the start of local festivals, so check out the two days of fun at the Maritime Gig Festival in Gig Harbor. There will be a pancake breakfast, interactive fishing activities, live entertainment, a grand parade, kids’ activities, a farmers market, a car show and food galore. No maybe about it: Carly Rae Jepsen will play State Fair

Carly Rae Jepsen and Hot Chelle Rae will perform at the Washington State Fair on Sept. 20. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. on Saturday.

Jepsen, the singer behind “Call Me Maybe,” “Tonight Tonight,” and “I Like It Like That,” and double Platinum certified quartet Hot Chelle Rae will share the stage in Puyallup.
