Journey, Pat Benatar, Loverboy headed to the Gorge

It’s going to be a 70s love fest when Journey joins Pat Benatar and Loverboy at the Gorge Amphitheater on July 28. Tickets go on sale Saturday.

In the 70s and 80s it was nearly impossible to turn on a radio without hearing Benatar’s “Hit Me With Your Best Shot,” Loverboy’s “Working For The Weekend” or any number of chart-topping hits from Journey.

Journey may have lost lead singer Steve Perry but if you haven’t stopped believin’ you’ll hardly notice the difference with Arnel Pineda in the front man spot. The Philippines-born singer was discovered on YouTube

Oh tannenbaum, have I got a Christmas tree for you

The weather looks chilly but dry through this weekend, and it’s officially December, so it might be a good time to start decking your halls.

And if your idea of a Christmas tree is stored a box in the attic, I say: “Good Yule, sir!” You’ve made your choice and we have nothing left to discuss.

And if you’re thinking about picking up your tree from the Safeway parking lot, nothing wrong with that. But let’s see if I can convince you to venture out a little farther and revel in the Northwest tradition of bagging your own. We live in Christmas tree Nirvana, which you already know if you’ve lived anywhere else in the country, and it’s a shame not to take advantage of that.

New outdoor ice rinks in Tacoma and Puyallup join annual ones in Seattle and Bellevue

Ahh – there you go, gliding over fresh ice, wrapped up in scarf and hat, laughing with friends, sipping hot cocoa… It’s outdoor ice skating time – that’s outdoor ice rinks, of course, in the mild Pacific Northwest. Here, we give you the scoop (or maybe the slush) on location, atmosphere, price, food and ice quality to help you choose where you’ll be skating this December.

Find the perfect patch to fetch your great pumpkin

Sure, you could go to Safeway and pick up your seasonal squash, but what’s the fun in buying your Halloween pumpkin from the same place you get your Corn Flakes.

For True Northwesterners, nothing beats pulling on the muck boots, packing up the kids into the Family Truckster and heading out into the countryside for a seasonal outing to the pumpkin patch. South Sound farms offers a wide variety of seasonal produce and activities this month, ranging from straight ahead u-pick pumpkins to full-fledged fall carnivals with elaborate corn mazes, hay rides and kiddie activities. It’s a great family
