Quilting and crafting sale, Bottle Collectors show, Petpalooza, boats, cars and motorcycles shows and more this weekend

SATURDAY

For all you crafters and quilters, Saturday is an opportunity to shop for your craft supplies in one spot. The Quilters & Crafters Yard Sell from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. is at Frontier Park Pierce County Fairgrounds, 21800 Meridian Ave. E., Graham.  If you have a closet full of extra fabric, paper, ribbon, rick rack, thread, patterns, etc., then this is the place to sell some of your extra supplies and handmade items at this special sale. There’s no lack of summer car shows in Gig Harbor

If you’re a fan of rare and collectible cars you’ll have three chances to see them (or bring yours) to Gig Harbor this summer.

Here are the details:

First up is “Wheels on the Water” – part of the annual Maritime Gig Festival on Sunday, June 2 from 12:30-4 p.m. This classic car “park-in” venue will be held in downtown Gig Harbor along Harborview Drive from Rosedale Street to Pioneer Way. Gig Harbor Street Scramble returns May 25

The annual Gig Harbor Street Scramble will take over the city’s downtown on May 25.

A street scramble is an urban adventure run, walk or bike ride.

The free event starts at 10 a.m. at Skansie Brothers Park (3207 Harborview Drive) in historic downtown Gig Harbor.

This Street Scramble is the largest in North America and the only free one in the greater Puget Sound region. Pre-registration is encouraged. The first 200 to pre-register receive a t-shirt. Registration will also be available at the event but t-shirts are not guaranteed.

Aquatic dinosaurs invade Gig Harbor

An exhibit featuring 14 prehistoric marine creatures has just opened at the Harbor History Museum in Gig Harbor.

“Savage Ancient Seas: the ancient aquatic deep” runs through July 14.

The museum is the first in the Pacific Northwest to host this exhibit of complete specimens from Triebold Paleontology Inc. of Colorado. Many of the specimens are suspended from the ceiling. Others are part of hands-on and learning center exhibits.

Josh Lucas and his ‘Red Dog’ kick off Gig Harbor Film Festival

Hollywood star Josh Lucas grew up in Gig Harbor and tonight he returned home to show a film he’s particularly proud of.

The star of “Sweet Home Alabama” and this year’s TV drama “The Firm” is a Gig Harbor High School graduate.

“Red Dog” is a 2011 Australian film that’s gone on to be the eighth highest grossing movie in that country. It tells the true story of a stray kelpie that worked his way into the hearts of a small mining community in Australia’s Outback. Josh Lucas, Hollywood star and Gig Harbor H.S. grad, coming home for G.H. Film Festival

Josh Lucas has starred in movies ranging from romantic comedy “Sweet Home Alabama” to action drama “Stealth.” Now, the Gig Harbor High School graduate is coming home for the Gig Harbor Film Festival and he’s bringing a special film with him.

The Hollywood star and New York City resident is a 1989 grad of G.H.H.S and starred in this year’s “The Firm” series on NBC. He’ll be taking time off from his current movie, a drama being filmed in Virginia, to be this year’s celebrity guest at the festival on Thursday, Oct. 18. The festival runs through Oct. 21.

Free Thursday concert series begins tonight at Uptown Gig Harbor

Gig Harbor shopping center Uptown Gig Harbor begins a free summer concert series today. The Shy Boys kick off the concerts which will run every Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. through Aug. 23.

Also at UGH (sorry, couldn’t resist) is a Saturday farmers market (8:30 a.m.-2 p.m.) and on July 25: Girl’s Night Out featuring a raffle and drink specials at Blazing Onion.
