Celebrate Gospel music on Sunday

A concert and awards event will fill Allen AME Church with the joyful sound of gospel music on Sunday.

“Gospel Music in the Old Time Way” will start at 3 p.m. at the church at 1223 Martin Luther King, Jr. Way in Tacoma.

MCs for the event are Minister C. Ivan Johnson and gospel comedian Tracie Davis.

The event will honor over a dozen gospel performers.


‘Love Does Stuff’ coming to Tacoma May 16-17

“Love Does” author Bob Goff is bringing a two-day summit to Tacoma in mid-May.

The New York Times bestselling author’s “Love Does Stuff 2013″ Christian-themed conference will feature speakers, spoken word and music. The summit will run May 16 and 17 at the Tacoma Convention Center.

According to the announcement it “celebrates the very tangible outcomes of dreaming big and loving even bigger.”

Goff released “Love Does” in 2012 in which he encourages a perspective on living with an emphasis on whimsy and engaging a purposeful lifestyle.

Puyallup musician brothers star in car-themed reality show ‘Escape Routes’

Product placement in television reaches a new level on Saturday when NBC and the Ford Motor Company team up for a reality show. And a brother team from Puyallup are among the cast members.

“Escape Routes” is an hour-long point-based competitive reality series which has teams visiting six cities in their 2013 Ford Escapes.

TobyMac coming to Puyallup Fair Sept. 13


Christian Music Performer TobyMac will play the Puyallup Fair on September 13. Tickets go on sale on Saturday at 10 a.m.

Now a solo artist, TobyMac’s career first took off as one of three founding members of dc Talk. His hit songs include “City On Our Knees,” “Made to Love,” “Lose My Soul,” and “Gone.”

TobyMac will perform in a 7:30 p.m. show. Tickets can be found on the Fair website, or by phone 888-559-FAIR (3247) daily, 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. To save the convenience charges, purchase tickets in person at the Puyallup Fair & Events Center box office at 9th Avenue SW and Meridian Street on Saturdays, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., and Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Ticket prices are $50 for Golden Circle, $40, $30 and $25. Religious choirs bring their message and their music Saturday

Gospel music will fill the Tacoma Elks Lodge on Saturday for a Combined Community Choir event.

Organizer Centell Jackson said choirs include Mt. Calvary COGIC Church Choir and Praise Dancers, IPAW Ministries (International Praise and Worship), Turning Point Youth Ministry and opening performers Tyreasha Willis and Treonna Simmons.

The event is titled, “Taking Back What the Enemy Has Stolen.” Jackson said the enemy is divisiveness and this event promotes solidarity and unity. “We can be closer as a people and have a better relationship,” he told me.

Any funds left over will help defray the expenses of the annual gospel

Three Interfaith Amigos come to Immanuel Presbyterian Tacoma on Wednesday

Seattle-based religious comedians the Three Interfaith Amigos come to Tacoma this Wednesday to promote their new book, “Religion Gone Astray: What we found at the heart of interfaith.”

Rabbi Ted Falcon, Pastor Don Mackenzie and Imam Jamal Rahman have toured to national media acclaim, bringing the message of inter-religious respect and understanding via a strong friendship and good stand-up humor.
