LouieFest returns to Tacoma – at LeMay

It’s been on a four year hiatus but now LouieFest, the rock and roll music and art festival, is back and it’s coming to Tacoma’s newest attraction: LeMay – America’s Car Museum July 28-29.

Forty bands on four outdoor stages will make up the entertainment during the two day festival.

Highlights include:

– Moby Grape

– Tacoma’s The Fabulous Wailers, who first recorded “Louie Louie.”

– 1,000 guitar sing-along to “Louie Louie.” Bring your own guitar and play with the pros.

– Local art, vendors, beer garden and children games/activities

Puyallup’s Spring Fair starts on Thursday

Music-making and NASCAR are the themes of two new attractions at this weekend’s vernal version of the Puyallup Fair which swings open its gates at 2 p.m. Thursday.

While some of the action is happening only Friday through Sunday there are still plenty of reasons to head over on Thursday. First: admission is free all day to anyone 18 or younger. The Fair just asks that you bring a non-perishable food donation for the Puyallup Food Bank.

Lea Thompson goes back to the future with the help of 23 DeLoreans

Lea Thompson greets fans at the SIFF cinema after arriving from Emerald City Comicon via DeLorean.

“This is the best day ever,” actress Lea Thompson said as she stepped out of a DeLorean behind the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle Saturday night. A fleet of 22 more DeLoreans surrounded her. “They’ve had babies,” she said.

A few minutes later the 23 DeLoreans – one holding Thompson – were headed to the SIFF Cinema at the Uptown for a showing of the classic 1985 movie, “Back to the Future.”

Puyallup musician brothers star in car-themed reality show ‘Escape Routes’

Product placement in television reaches a new level on Saturday when NBC and the Ford Motor Company team up for a reality show. And a brother team from Puyallup are among the cast members.

“Escape Routes” is an hour-long point-based competitive reality series which has teams visiting six cities in their 2013 Ford Escapes.

LeMay opens three months from today

Save the date: LeMay – America’s Car Museum will have its grand opening three months from today on June 2.

The four-story, 165,000 square-foot museum that looks like a gigantic toaster next to the Tacoma Dome will house more than 500 vintage cars, trucks and motorcycles. A large portion of those are from the Harold LeMay collection, housed at the old Marymount campus.

The museum is touting that it was named one of the world’s “8 big openings of 2012” by USA Today. Not too shabby.

LeMay car show Saturday at Marymount

You don’t have to wait until America’s Car Museum opens next year to see some amazing automobiles. The LeMay Family Collection Foundation is having its 34th Annual LeMay Car Show, Auction & Swap Meet at the Marymount Event Center Saturday.

The foundation is distinct from the organization that’s building that odd looking museum between Highway 705 and the Tacoma Dome. The LeMay Family’s annual event runs 9 a.m.-5 p.m. 1,000 different automobiles, trucks and motorcycles from their collection will be on display. In addition hundreds of local collector cars will be on view.
