A structural beam in the ceiling of Showbox SoDo in Seattle cracked as crews set up for the FareStart Guest Chef Spectacular event today, according to FareStart spokeswoman Christina Starr.

She said a structural engineer advised that the venue be closed for the night.

FareStart cancelled the event and will issue full refunds to ticket holders, Starr said.

The event was scheduled to feature a selection of food and alcohol from local businesses that support FareStart, which aims to give the homeless and disadvantaged life and job skills through training in the food service industry.

Starr said FareStart hasn’t decided whether to reschedule the event.

Officials from Showbox SoDo could not immediately be reached for comment.
