Picture 1It’s become increasingly popular in recent years for theaters to show Oscar-nominated films for Best Picture just before each year’s Academy Awards ceremony. Tacoma’s Grand Cinema has made a habit of doing that.

For the past seven years national chain AMC Theatres has held a Best Picture Showcase. They are doing it again this year at their theater in Lakewood. All nine Best Picture nominees will be screened (in two groups) on Feb. 16 and 23.

I get antsy in a double feature so I’m skipping this event. But if you can sit in a theater for hours on end this is the event for you.

The nine movies and showtimes are:

10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16
“Les Miserables”
“Django Unchained”

10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23
“Beasts of the Southern Wild”
“Life of Pie”
“Silver Linings Playbook”
“Zero Dark Thirty”

AMC Best Picture Showcase Pricing:

– Two-Day Pass: $60 (includes all nine movies on Feb. 16 and Feb. 23; available only at the box office)

– One-Day Pass (2/16):$30 (includes four movies on Feb. 16)

– One-Day Pass (2/23): $40 (includes five movies on Feb. 23)

AMC Loews Lakewood Towne Center 12 is at 5721 Main Street SW in Lakewood.
