Catch up on Oscar-nominated films in one place

It’s become increasingly popular in recent years for theaters to show Oscar-nominated films for Best Picture just before each year’s Academy Awards ceremony. Tacoma’s Grand Cinema has made a habit of doing that.

For the past seven years national chain AMC Theatres has held a Best Picture Showcase. They are doing it again this year at their theater in Lakewood. All nine Best Picture nominees will be screened (in two groups) on Feb. 16 and 23.

Tacoma family will ‘Feud’ Monday morning with Steve Harvey

The Pawlak family of Tacoma will compete on the long-running game show “Family Feud” Monday morning.

The show, hosted by Steve Harvey, will air Monday at 9 a.m. on The CW 11 (KSTW 11).

The five Pawlak brothers will attempt to keep up with the Johnsons – a family from Lexington, Ken. in front of a studio audience in Atlanta, Georgia. (The show is taped.) Both families are trying to win up to $100,000 and a new car.

Seattle boat show, free Native community festival, free kids concert and more events this weekend and beyond

The Seattle Boat Show, Indoors and Afloat
is billed as the West Coast’s largest boat show and features more than 1,000 recreational watercraft, seminars and the latest accessories. Check out the show indoors at CenturyLink Field, 800 Occidental Ave., and afloat on South Lake Union. A free shuttle runs between CenturyLink Field and South Lake Union every 30 minutes during the show. It runs through Feb. 3. Hours are 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays, 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Fridays, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturdays and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sundays at Century Link Field; plus 11 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays

‘Let’s Ride’ motorcycle exhibit opens Saturday at History Museum

The Washington State History Museum opens its newest exhibit, “Let’s Ride! Motorcycling the Northwest” on Saturday. I’ll have a story on it in Friday’s GO section.

The show runs through June 23 and displays some two dozen vintage motorcycles. It tells the story of the motorcycle’s history in Washington. I took a walk through on Tuesday. Even if you’re like me and not into motorcycles you’ll find the show interesting.

There’s a voluminous amount of events associated with the show. Here’s the full schedule:

Rock and Roll Never Forgets: Bob Seger to play Tacoma Dome

Bob Seger and The Silver Bullet Band are coming to the Tacoma Dome on Friday, March 29 for the first leg of their Rock And Roll Never Forgets 2013 Tour. Tickets go on sale Saturday, February 2 at 9 a.m.

The tour will kick off February 27th in Toledo, Ohio. The Tacoma show will include Joe Walsh as a special guest.

New Kids on the Block, 98 Degrees and Boyz II Men headed to Tacoma for July show

New Kids on the Block, 98 Degrees and Boyz II Men are joining forces for a Tacoma Dome show on July 9.

It’s been a long time since any of these guys could call themselves kids or boyz but their ardent fans don’t seem to mind. NKOTB is the headliner for The Package tour. Tickets go on sale February 2 at www.ticketmaster.com.

NKOTB: The multi-platinum selling group will release their new album, 10, on April 2 with the first single “Remix (I Like The)” coming out on iTunes on January 28.
