Brandi Carlile, Duff McKagan perform Hendrix at EMP

Local music stars Brandi Carlile and Duff McKagan have been added to the lineup for “Hear My Train a Comin’: The Concert” on November 17 at the Experience Music Project.

The show kicks off the opening of the museum’s exhibition “Hear My Train a Comin’: Hendrix Hits London.” The show focuses on Jimi Hendrix’s rise on the British pop charts and his return to America in 1967 for his legendary performance at the Monterey International Pop Festival.

The show opens one week before what would have been Hendrix’s 70th birthday.

Green Day cancels remainder of tour, including Seattle stop

Green Day has canceled the remainder of its ¡Uno!¡Dos!¡Tre! North American tour including a stop at Seattle’s Paramount Theatre on Nov. 26.

The band’s vocalist/guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong is apparently still in treatment over substance abuse.

Other regional stops included Kennewick and Salem.

Truck and tractor day, quilt show, comedy, Loretta Lynn, marching bands and more happenings this weekend and beyond

It’s going to be a day of trucks, tractors, games, activities and a movie at the Truck and Tractor Day from 3-8:30 p.m. Saturday at Fort Steilacoom Park, 8700 Steilcaoom Blvd. SW, Lakewood. There also will be hay rides, face painting and pumpkin decorating plus inflatables, a balloon artist and giveaways. ‘Creepshow’ opens tonight at History Museum

If what I saw during a dry run Wednesday night at the Washington State History Museum is any indication “Creepshow: Terror in Tacoma” is going to be a haunted house like Tacoma has never seen.

The production was still getting its final touches when I went through. The lighting and sound effects were being worked on but the sets were all in place and some of the actors were rehearsing their techniques.

The creator, special effects artist Marcel Banks, had everything under control as he gave directions to museum staff, actors and volunteers.

Tacoman’s epic kayak journey down the Congo to screen at Grand Cinema

Steve Fisher was born in South Africa and lives in Tacoma but it’s the mighty Congo River that takes him to the Grand Cinema on Thursday.

“Congo: The Grand Inga Project” documents Fisher’s kayak expedition down the African river – the first ever.

Fisher, who will introduce the film, says the movie appeals to a wider audience than just paddling fans. It focuses on the history and details of the first decent of the world’s biggest rapids.

This is no shabby hand-held production. Footage was shot from helicopters and cameras mounted on helmets and on the kayaks themselves.

Calvin Harris, Afrojack, Ed Sheeran lead Jingle Ball line-up

106.1 KISS FM announced today the lineup for its annual Jingle Ball holiday concert on Sunday, December 16 at the WaMu Theater in Seattle.

The line-up features Calvin Harris, Afrojack, Ed Sheeran, 3oh!3, Owl City, Alex Clare and Cher Lloyd. Interestingly, this is the second announcement today concerning Owl City. They are touring with Maroon 5 and will play KeyArena on March 11. Read more about that here.

Overexposed: Maroon 5 coming to KeyArena in March

Maroon 5 announced today they’ll be playing a show at Seattle’s KeyArena on Monday, March 11. Tickets go on sale Saturday at 10 a.m.

The band was nominated for three American Music Awards and their single “One More Night” has now spent five weeks at #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100. Their best selling new album, Overexposed, was released last summer.

Their new single “Daylight” will debut on “The Voice” on Thursday, November 8. The band’s lead singer, Adam Levine, is a coach on that show.
