The Stewart Heights pool will go to the dogs on Saturday, Sept. 8.
The end-of-season pup pool party runs 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Your pooch can paddle along the Lazy River and splash in the sprayground. There will also be swimming contests and an agility course – for dogs.
Humans need not worry about a dog-contaminated pool post-party. The pool closes for the season on Sept. 3.
“It’s great to be able to put this park asset to a different use before it’s drained and cleaned for the winter,” said Jim Biles, Senior Recreation Aquatics Supervisor.
Here’s more from the announcement from Metro Parks:
The party is divided into two sessions: 10-11:30 am and noon-1:30 pm. Tickets are available at the door. Entry fee is $10 for the first dog, $5 for the second and is limited to two dogs per person. Humans are admitted free of charge. Entry may be limited if pool reaches capacity.
Stewart Heights’ last day for public swimming is Monday, September 3. Afterwards pool chemicals will be turned off in preparation for furry visitors. When the Pooch Pool Party is over the pool will be drained, cleaned and closed for the winter.
Participants are encouraged to bring unopened pet food to the event for donation to the Dugan Foundation to support their work establishing Pierce County as a no-kill community.
Stewart Heights Pool is located at 402 E 56th St. in Tacoma. Not all pool features will be available for dog use. For more information call 253-591-2042 or visit MetroParksTacoma.org/Dogs.
