Roy rodeo, Get out of the Rut, Blackberry festival, harbor days, lots of music and more this weekend and beyond

Pull out your cowboy hat and head out to the Roy Pioneer Rodeo this weekend. There will be bareback riding, calf roping, saddle bronc riding, barrel racing and more. You’ll be able to watch some of the best local cowboys compete in your own backyard at the Roy Rodeo Grounds, 8710 Higgins Greig Road S., Roy. The gates open at noon Saturday and Sunday, with the rodeo beginning at 1:30 p.m. Tickets are $4-10, cash only; royrodeo.com.

Pooch Pool Party at Stewart Heights Sept. 8

The Stewart Heights pool will go to the dogs on Saturday, Sept. 8.

The end-of-season pup pool party runs 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Your pooch can paddle along the Lazy River and splash in the sprayground. There will also be swimming contests and an agility course – for dogs.

Humans need not worry about a dog-contaminated pool post-party. The pool closes for the season on Sept. 3.

“It’s great to be able to put this park asset to a different use before it’s drained and cleaned for the winter,” said Jim Biles, Senior Recreation Aquatics Supervisor.

Subaru PUMA Rallycross team comes to Subaru of Puyallup Friday, Saturday

Subaru of Puyallup will host the Subaru PUMA Rallycross team Friday and Saturday. The team from Vermont SportsCar will be on-site with their interactive display to share with casual fans and hardcore enthusiasts.

The display features a Dave Mirra No. 40 Subaru Impreza WRX STI Rallycross car and
a customized trailer featuring SPT parts, rally videos and Subaru rally related information. The show car features the new graphic scheme of the recently launched RallyCross Team, which competes in the Global RallyCross Championship.

Smashing Pumpkins kick off tour at Comcast Arena

The Smashing Pumpkins will be kicking off their U.S. tour at Comcast Arena in Everett on October 10. Tickets go on sale Sept. 7.

The band will perform their new Oceania album followed by classics and other material.

The 7:30 p.m. show will be on Wednesday, October 10 with singer/guitarist Billy Corgan, guitarist Jeff Schroader, drummer Mike Byrne and bassist Nicole Fiorentino.

Oceania entered the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart at #4 and earned the #1 spot on the Independent Albums Chart in June.

Masterpieces of sand sculpting taking shape in Federal Way

Some of the world’s best sand sculptors are in Federal Way now for the “Tournament of Champions” at the Northwest Sand Festival.

It’s the largest exhibition of its kind in North America and it’s happening at the Commons Mall (southwest parking lot just behind Sears) on Pacific Highway at South 320th Street in Federal Way now through Sept. 4.
