Go fly a kite…at Chambers Creek kite festival

If you’ve visited the new jewel in our regional park system, Chambers Creek Regional Park, you know that the Central Meadow is a popular place for flying kites.

This Saturday the Pierce County Parks & Recreation and the Pierce County Kitefliers are having a kite festival there. The event will be held in the Central Meadow from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The free event is kid-oriented. The first 200 kids will get a free (but they assemble) kite and there will demos, vendors and other fun stuff.

Even if you don’t fly kites I suspect there will be lots of eager enthusiasts on hand to hook you in on the sport. And, after having walked the sand during the annual kite festival in Long Beach, I can tell you it’s just a spectacular sight to see hundreds of kites in the air.
