Magical Strings
A former acoustic music series is alive again at Lakewood Playhouse. The next show, featuring Magical Strings, is on Thursday.

Organizer and MC Tom Wilson said the monthly series features a variety of genres: bluegrass, Celtic, folk. A concert on June 20 also doubles as a CD release party for world jazz piano player Scott Cossu.

Magical Strings is made of Philip and Pam Boulding on Celtic harp and hammered dulcimer augmented by violin, cello, pennywhistle, percussion and various instruments from around the world.

The last time the music series was active at Lakewood Playhouse was in the 1990s, Wilson said. He started the series again in February. Wilson is currently a music producer and sound man. He hosted a show on Olympia’s KAOS and started the open mic at the Antique Sandwich Company.

The 150-seat theater is perfect for the series, Wilson said. “There’s just enough PA amplification to hear it but not to make your ears ring when you leave the building.”

The 8 p.m. show is $15.
