On Saturday he’ll perform in ‘Laugh Towards A Cure’ – a cancer benefit comedy show. Jones sings and acts his way through 75 superstar singers and celebrities in this family-friendly show.
From Cher to Willie Nelson to Sammy Davis, Jr. he covers an astonishing variety of performers in his one-man “Legendary Voices in Concert.” The 90-minute show will be held in the 300-seat indoor theater at Meridian Habitat Park.
Jones had his own show for 10 years in Las Vegas, most recently at Planet Hollywood, he told me in a recent conversation. He moved to Puyallup, his wife’s hometown, a year ago. Most of his income currently comes from his work as a corporate entertainer, he says.
In 1998 Jones was diagnosed with stage IV melanoma and was given slim odds to live. He’s now cancer-free. This fundraiser was inspired by a friend, Jennifer LaFleur, who has brain cancer, Jones said.
Jones told me that cancer not only affected his health but his career as well.
“Before I went through the cancer I was just a singer. After that I added the comedian title to my name and realized the many benefits of laughter. My career went in a different direction after that,” Jones said.
