Former Seattle comic Alysia Wood is celebrating her debut comedy album on Monday at Tacoma’s Stonegate.
Wood’s comedy is self deprecating and skewers her own dysfunctional family. She was on season five of “Last Comic Standing” and was named America’s Next Funniest Comedian in 2010. Her new CD, Princess, is being produced by Grammy award-winning producer Dan Schlissel.
You can watch a video of her stand-up here.
From the press release:
The Louisiana native began her comedy career in Seattle and has recently settled in Los Angeles, where she caught the attention of the legendary founder of the Improv chain, Budd Friedman. He bestowed the title of “America’s Next Funniest” comedian upon her at Harrah’s Improv in Las Vegas in 2010. The competition was sponsored by the DVD release of the movie Funny People and ijoke.com. In addition, she was a finalist in many more competitions, including the California’s Funniest Female Competition.
Alysia was also selected as a Hot Comedian by Campus Activities Magazine. National Lampoon Comedy Radio on XM calls her “Hysterical!” and constantly airs Alysia’s sound bites. She appears on the prestigious, nationally-syndicated show Bob & Tom, where her self-effacing material – which encompasses family dysfunction and battling personal demons including smoking, anger management, ADD, suicide attempts, breakups, meltdowns and more – has been complimented as “well-written… well-structured.” Alysia is also a contributing writer for several internet columns and a frequent guest on many podcasts.
