The Grand Cinema is once again hosting an Academy Awards Party. This year’s is on February 26 (the night of the Oscars, naturally.)

Tickets are on sale now and are $25 general admission or $20 for Grand Cinema members.

The event is not at the non-profit movie theater but instead at Theater on the Square where attendees will watch the Oscars on a movie screen. Included in the ticket price is a box lunch made by Maxwell’s Restaurant.

Doors open at 4 p.m. with a red carpet event “Tacoma-style” (I’m not sure what that means) followed by the telecast at 5 p.m.

If you attend the event you might get to be Charlie from the Willy Wonka story. Guess the most correct number of Oscar winners and you’ll get “The Golden Ticket” – a free movie pass to the Grand Cinema for one year. A friend of mine won this one year and used it frequently.

The event also includes:
-raffle prizes
-silent auction table
-cash bar
-$100 gift certificate by dressing as your favorite movie star in a judged contest

Purchase tickets now at the Grand Cinema or by calling 253-593-4474 or visit

The Theater on the Square is located at 915 Broadway in downtown Tacoma.
