Weekend Navigator: Fireworks and festivals mark Independence Day

South Sound will have a blast this weekend with a wide variety of community festival and events celebrating the Independence Day. Here’s some of the big events leading up to the Fourth. For other weekend happenings, check out our Go & Do Calendar.

Military Aviation Night at Cheney Stadium featuring military activities, a special Naval centennial tribute and fireworks, 7:05 p.m., Friday, Cheney Stadium, 2502 S. Tyler St., Tacoma.

Freedom Fair Wings and Wheels an aviation event with a car and motorcycle show. Featuring live entertainment, amusements for kids, race cars, World War II B-17 and B-25 aircraft rides and tours, helicopter rides, and the Smoke ‘N’ Thunder Jet Dragster, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday, Tacoma Narrows Airport, 1202 26th Ave. N.W., Gig Harbor. $5-$12, kids 6 and younger, free.

Tacoma Freedom Fair air shows, food, vendors, exhibits, rides, and events ending with the Northwest’s biggest fireworks show over Puget Sound, 10 a.m.-11 p.m. Monday, Ruston Way Waterfront, Tacoma. Free, donations accepted.

Joint Base Lewis McChord welcomes the public to Freedom Fest featuring a car show, carnival, live music, food booths and fireworks, 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Monday. (Vehicles without Department of Defense stickers should enter JBLM Lewis-Main through the DuPont Gate at the I-5 Exit 119. Satellite parking with shuttle buses is available just inside the DuPont Gate. All vehicles are subject to being searched; drivers should bring driver’s license, registration and proof of insurance.)

Steilacoom Fourth of July featuring family activities, food, street fair, live entertainment, street dance and fireworks show, 9 a.m.-11 p.m. Monday, Lafayette Street, Steilacoom.

Greatest Generation Fourth of July Celebration featuring a parade, pony rides, barbecue, live music and children’s activities, 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday, Clocktower Park, DuPont.

Orting Family Fun Fourth 2 p.m. to dusk Monday, orting lions field. includes water zone, field games, pie-eating contest, Scott Cossu band and fireworks.

Tumwater’s Fourth of July Starts the day Monday with an 11 a.m. parade on Capitol Boulevard. Daylong activities, entertainment, music, food, prizes at Tumwater Valley Golf Course ends with fireworks show at dusk. Golf course is at 4611 Tumwater Valley Drive S.E., Tumwater. $5 parking.

Auburn’s Fourth of July family activities, games, vendors, food and more, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday, Les Gove Park, 910 Ninth St. S.E., Auburn.

Federal Way Red White and Blue Festival featuring family games, arts and crafts, live entertainment, food vendors and fireworks show, 5:30-11 p.m. Monday, Celebration Park, 1095 S. 324th St., Federal Way.

Enumclaw Family Fun Fourth featuring parade, pancake breakfast, and fireworks show, 8 a.m.-11 p.m. Monday. Festival in downtown Enumclaw, fireworks at Enumclaw Expo Center, 45224 284th Ave. S.E., Enumclaw.

Family 4th at Lake Union Kicks off at noon Monday, Gas Works Park, 2101 N. Northlake Way, Seattle. Dusty 45s will play starting at 8 p.m.; fireworks start about 10 p.m., with a musical score simulcast at 97.3 KIRO FM and TV broadcast on KING-TV. Free.
