Fircrest resident Wendy McConkey will appear briefly on The Oprah Winfrey Show on Tuesday to celebrate losing more than 300 pounds.
McConkey, a Kindergarten teacher at Tacoma’s De Long Elementary School, spent 5.5 years dropping her weight from 449.6 to 148 pounds. She lost the weight entirely through diet and exercise.

McConkey is one of 100 people invited to the show who lost 100 pounds or more. While McConkey is not interviewed by Oprah Winfrey, she was part of a crowd that, on Winfrey’s cue, dropped an old item of clothing to reveal their new bodies.
