This Sunday the 5 p.m. monthly Blues Vespers at Tacoma’s Immanuel Presbyterian features Henry Cooper and his band, dubbed the “Sultans of Slide.”

Cooper, a solo slide guitarist for the last couple of decades, is one of the reasons the free Blues Vespers has been nominated Best Non-Festival Blues Event in the state by the Washington Blues Society. Stay tuned for the winner, announced Sunday night in Seattle. The Vespers is a free monthly blues concert in the historic wooden church that includes some poetry and a brief reflection by pastor Dave Brown, with a donation collection.

Immanuel Presbyterian is also co-presenting a Broadway Center event tomorrow – blues legend Buddy Guy, opening with Little Bill and the Bluenotes at the Pantages.

The Buddy Guy event tomorrow night is sold out. But you can still go to Blues Vespers, 5 p.m. April 15 at Immanuel Presbyterian, 901 N. J St., Tacoma. 253-951-9870, www.ipctyacoma.org
