The scent of plumeria will be in the air at the University of Puget Sound’s Spring Lu`au Saturday. Music, a stage show and a Polynesian dinner are the main events.

The 41st annual event attracts about 1,000 attendees each year in the Wheelock Student Center and in the Memorial Fieldhouse on the UPS campus. Dinner is served 5 to 7 p.m. and the stage show begins at 8 p.m.

The event, organized by the Hui O Hawai`i student club, features the band Na Leo O Hawai`i. In addition there will be Hawaiian, Tahitian, Samoan and Maori dances with ritual face-painting, grass skirts, loincloths and colorful island dresses.

The dinner of traditional Polynesian cuisine will include kalua pig, huli huli chicken, lomi lomi salmon, macaroni salad, poi, chicken long rice, haupia, pineapple, and two vegan dishes: mushroom long rice and pineapple stir fry.
