Science Dome offers summer science films

UPDATE: Previously announced showtimes were incorrect. Here’s the correct info, according to Pierce College:

This summer, the Pierce College Fort Steilacoom Science Dome is offering six shows and will be playing science-oriented movies on Fridays at 7 p.m. and Saturdays at 3:15 p.m.

Beginning June 26, there will be shows on Wednesdays at 1 p.m. and 2:15 p.m.

Ticket info: Adults are $6, children 3 to 18 are $3 and Pierce College students are $3.

The Science Dome is a 55-seat visualization theatre with a 38 foot dome-shaped screen. It provides an immersive and interactive experience for showing science films.

State supreme court justice speaks at Pierce College graduation Friday

Washington State Supreme Court Justice Mary E. Fairhurst will be the featured speaker at this Friday’s Pierce College graduation ceremonies.

Commencement exercises will be at 3:30 p.m. Friday, June 14, at the Tacoma Dome.

Fairhurst has served on the state Supreme Court since 2003. Before she was elected to the court, she worked as a Washington state assistant attorney general, specializing in criminal justice, transportation, revenue and labor.

Throughout her career, Justice Fairhurst has worked to enhance opportunities for women and minorities in the legal profession and to ensure access to justice for low-income individuals and families. She has served on

Pierce College names new president of Puyallup campus

Pierce College has selected Dr. Marty Cavalluzzi as the next president of the Puyallup campus, beginning July 1.

Dr. Cavalluzzi currently serves as executive vice president for instruction and chief academic officer at Edmonds Community College. He has held past administrative posts at Seattle Central Community College and Northwest Indian College in Bellingham. He also taught zoology and biology courses.
