Searching for a present for Mom? Hilltop Artists sale is Saturday

You can support Tacoma youth by purchasing glass art pieces created by students through the Hilltop Artists program.

The sale takes place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday May 11 at Jason Lee Middle School, 602 N. Sprague Ave., Tacoma. You can shorten your wait in line by arriving at 9 a.m. to pick up a numbered entrance ticket, and return at the appointed time.

Vases, bowls, jewelry and other glass pieces will be for sale in the school hot shop and gym.

Help send kids to college with your cash

The College Success Foundation will host a fundraising luncheon at noon Tuesday May 14 at the Greater Tacoma Convention and Trade Center, 1500 Broadway. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m.

Samuel H. Smith, president emeritus of Washington State University is the special guest, and KING-5 news anchor and Tacoma native Joyce Taylor is the emcee for “Empowering Youth Tacoma.”

Advance reservations are $100, and organizers ask that you RSVP and register by May 6 online at collegesuccessfoundation.org.

Giaudrone Middle School hosts Hollywood-themed murder mystery dinner

Tickets are now on sale for Giaudrone‘s second annual murder mystery dinner theater, “Hollywood Files,” performing for one night only on Saturday, June 1.

The action takes place at the villa of “Hugh Jeego,” where a post-production party goes bad, and actor extraordinaire “Rich N. Famous” takes his last breath.

The show includes a three-course dinner catered by Olive Garden Italian Restaurant, along with prizes and a mystery to solve.

Tickets are $15. There are only 150 seats available. To purchase tickets, call 253-571-5811 or stop by the Giaudrone office at 4902 S. Alaska St., Tacoma.

Stand for Children hosts Geoffrey Canada of Harlem Children’s Zone

Stand for Children will host its “Changing the Odds” lunch with Geoffrey Canada, CEO and co-founder of the Harlem Children’s Zone, on Friday April 26 in Seattle.

Canada has been lauded by President Obama and profiled by the New York Times Magazine for his education advocacy and his work on behalf of low-income students and families.

The event begins at noon Friday at the Sheraton in Seattle. There is a $150 suggested donation.

Lincoln High hosts hip hop arts fest to help fund school drumline

Rappers, step teams, singers, dance crews and Lincoln High School’s (LHS) Drumline will appear onstage in the Hip Hop Arts Showcase this Friday.

Blix Blazers Step Team, The Bosses, Tiore Watson, TTF-MG, Charles Carson, LHS B-Boys, ZeAyre Trimmings and Carlitos & Juan performances will start at 7 p.m. in the Lincoln Auditorium, 701 S. 37th St., Tacoma.

“A lot of entertainment for just $5 (kids under 5 are free) – and for a good cause,” said Drumline Director Peter Briggs.
