Routine traffic stop in Yelm turns up stolen property

A Washington State Patrol trooper found more than just a driver without a seat belt on during a traffic stop Saturday afternoon in Yelm.

The State Patrol reported that a trooper had pulled over a car for a seat belt violation in Yelm at 1:11 p.m. “While approaching the vehicle the trooper noticed several steel grates and pieces of metal in the back seat and requested a Yelm officer to assist,” a news release stated.

Thurston County deputies look for man in violent attack on his girlfriend

Thurston County sheriff’s investigators are searching for a 46-year-old man accused of beating his girlfriend Thursday outside of Yelm.

A warrant has been issued for Garrett R. West on allegations of first-degree assault, first-degree kidnapping, car theft and felony harassment, the Sheriff’s Office reported today.

Investigators believe West severely beat his girlfriend, held her against her will and dragged her into her house off 158th Avenue Southeast near Lawrence Lake on Thursday. He allegedly threatened to kill her and her adult son and strangled her until she went unconscious.

Two masked men robbed a Yelm fast-food restaurant early today and their descriptions resemble those of the two robbers who have impersonated cops, stopped restaurant employees and robbed them at gunpoint in Pierce County.

Investigators don’t have concrete evidence tying the Yelm robbery to the Pierce County spree but detectives from all the agencies will be talking.

“We’re going to explore all the possibilities,” Yelm police Sgt. Adam Wood said.

According to The Olympian’s Web site, the robbery occurred about 1:30 a.m. as two employees closed up the Burger King on Yelm Avenue.
