Bystanders help rescue man in water on Tideflats

Workers on the Tacoma Tideflats helped rescue a young man early Wednesday who appeared to be swimming in the area, according to Tacoma Fire.

Crews got a report about 6:30 a.m. of a man in the water near the 800 block of Portland Avenue. The swimmer, who police said is 18, had already been helped out of the water by the workers when emergency teams arrived, Deputy Fire Chief Jolene Davis said.

Firefighters took the man to St. Joseph Medical Center, where was is stable condition late Wednesday.

Kayakers rescued from Green River this afternoon in separate incidents

Two kayakers were pulled from the Green River in separate incidents this afternoon, according to the King County Sheriff’s Office.

A woman in her 40s fell out of her kayak about 1:30 p.m. near Black Diamond, and a 23-year-old Kent man fell from his kayak about 2:30 p.m  at Kanaskat Palmer State Park.

The woman was taken to the hospital in Auburn in critical condition.

Deputies said she had some experience as a river kayaker and was well-equipped with a helmet and life jacket.

A marine unit got the man out, and he was unharmed.

UPDATED: Water rescue in progress at Steel Lake, one person missing

UPDATE: A 15-year-old boy was pulled out of the lake by a South King Fire and Rescue surface diver, after being underwater for about 30 minutes, said Assistant Chief Gordie Olson. They got the call about 2:15 p.m.

He was found under the public dock at the lake, Olson said, and paramedics performed CPR at the scene.

The boy was taken to Saint Francis Hospital in very serious condition, Olson said.

He had been swimming with friends, who saw him slip under.
